New EPL season, Same old story?
The 2024/2025 English Premier League season kicked off over the past weekend across the various centers. Defending Champions Manchester City took on Chelsea as the star match of the weekend, elsewhere Arsenal took on Wolverhampton wonderers and Manchester United took on Fulham among other fixtures.
The main talking points that have arisen over the weekend as regards the direction of the title come end of the season is whether Man city will win a fourth or if Arteta and his boys can finally get their hands on the holy Grail after missing out two sessions in a row not entirely ruling out a surprise contender among the remaining 18 teams.
Still early days but Manchester City showed they haven’t lost any of their bite in the way and manner they dispatched Chelsea at the bridge, coming out victorious in a 2-0 win although Pep Guardiola has said that he’s lacking the motivation to challenge for another title his team still looks dangerous.
Down to the Emirates, where Arsenal had a convincing win over wolves one might still argue whether they really have the squad depth to really challenge for the title this season especially with Saka still being the main man in attack going into yet another season, we think Arteta should show more ambition by going for a another star man upfront and a midfielder to enable him push City to the very end and avoid the team falling by the way side towards the end of the season as they have done for the past two seasons now.
Now shifting focus to the other teams, we can never rule out a surprise package or a dark horse in the title run in. Taking a closer look at Aston Villa, one can see the very good works of Unai Emery from last season coupled with some decent signings the team has made this summer one can say they might give it a long shot though a very ambitious one.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are teams that deserve a mention too, although the managerial change at Chelsea and Liverpool might make it hard for the two teams to challenge for the title as the coaches might need ample amount of time to get their ideas across to the players they can’t possibly be ruled out from the title race. although getting back into the top four might be the immediate task at Chelsea anything can happen judging by the quality of squad being assembled.
Now to the Red side of Manchester, where there have just been a partial takeover of the club by INEOS and Erik Ten Hagg receiving support from the board in terms of player purchase one might also be right to dream about a strong season from the Red devils. Whether there’ll be a title charge from them is left to be seen, but like we’ve rightly said anything can happen.
After all said and done we await an entertaining season ahead of us. Whether City will retain the title for the fifth consecutive time or whether Arsenal can wrestle it off their hands and of course not entirely ruling out a surprise package among the other teams. One thing is certain it’s going to be an exciting season ahead of us one which will produce a deserving champion at the very end.
